What Are The Benefits of Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers offer immediate, natural-looking volume restoration and facial rejuvenation using injectable hyaluronic acid or calcium-based gel formulations. FDA-approved for treating moderate to severe facial wrinkles, lip enhancement, cheek augmentation, and facial contouring, dermal fillers provide versatile solutions for multiple signs of aging. At Z Aesthetic Dermatology, Dr. Z uses premium filler brands including Restylane, Radiesse, and Revanesse to address nasolabial folds (smile lines), marionette lines, lip volume loss, under-eye hollows (tear troughs), cheek deflation, jawline definition, chin augmentation, and hand rejuvenation. Unlike neuromodulators that relax muscles, fillers work by adding structural volume beneath the skin—literally filling in wrinkles, restoring lost fullness, and reshaping facial contours for a more youthful appearance.

Results are visible immediately after injection, with full effects settling beautifully over 1-2 weeks as any initial swelling subsides. Depending on the specific filler product and treatment area, results last 6-18 months, with some advanced formulations providing even longer duration. Hyaluronic acid fillers offer the unique benefit of reversibility—if you're unsatisfied with results, they can be dissolved with hyaluronidase enzyme. With minimal downtime (most patients return to work the same or next day), customizable treatment plans for any budget or aesthetic goal, and the artistic expertise of board-certified Dr. Z, dermal fillers are the gold standard for immediate facial rejuvenation and age-defying volume restoration.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers, also known as injectables or soft-tissue fillers, are a non-surgical alternative to facelifts and brow lifts. These treatments help restore youthful fullness, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, plump lips, and contour facial features. By gently replacing lost volume beneath the skin, fillers create a rejuvenated, refreshed appearance without downtime or surgery.

How do Dermal Fillers Work?

Dermal fillers work by gently restoring lost volume and supporting the structure beneath the skin. By filling shallow contours, plumping lips, and softening wrinkles, fillers enhance your natural facial features without surgery. Unlike traditional anti-aging treatments that tighten the skin, fillers work underneath the surface to replenish elasticity and smoothness, giving your face a youthful, refreshed appearance.

Natural, Never Overdone Results

Unlike early anti-aging methods that pulled or tightened the skin, dermal fillers work beneath the surface to replace elasticity and support the skin’s structure. The result? A softer, lifted, and more youthful version of you—never tight or “frozen.” Our patients love the liquid facelift effect, which enhances your natural beauty with immediate, subtle, and lasting results.

Smooth, Plump, and Rejuvenate—Naturally

With dermal fillers at Z Dermatology, you can achieve a refreshed, youthful glow without surgery or lengthy recovery. Whether you want to restore volume to your cheeks, enhance your lips, or smooth fine lines, our team will create a custom treatment plan that helps you look like yourself—only more radiant.

Dr. Z's Skin Care Routine

What Is The Filler Treatment Process?

One of the most appreciated aspects of dermal filler treatment at Z Aesthetic Dermatology is seeing immediate transformation while knowing your results will continue improving as everything settles naturally. The entire process—from consultation to walking out the door with visible results—is designed around your comfort, your schedule, and your desire for natural-looking enhancement that honors your unique facial structure. Dr. Z has spent over 15 years mastering advanced filler injection techniques, and every dermal filler appointment reflects that commitment to precision, artistry, and personalized care.

Your filler journey begins with a comprehensive consultation where Dr. Z evaluates your facial anatomy, discusses your aesthetic goals, and creates a customized treatment plan. She'll explain which filler product is best suited for your specific needs—whether that's Restylane for delicate under-eye areas, Radiesse for structural support and collagen stimulation, or Revanesse for smooth, natural lip enhancement. During treatment, Dr. Z applies topical numbing cream to treatment areas for 15-20 minutes to maximize comfort. Most premium fillers also contain lidocaine (a local anesthetic) within the product itself for additional comfort during injection. Dr. Z then carefully injects the filler using either ultra-fine needles or blunt-tip cannulas (flexible tubes that glide beneath skin with less bruising risk) with expert precision developed through thousands of procedures. She works methodically, injecting small amounts at a time, massaging gently to ensure even distribution, and frequently checking symmetry to achieve balanced, natural-looking results. The entire appointment takes 30-60 minutes depending on treatment areas—you can easily schedule during a lunch break.

Mild to moderate swelling and possible bruising may occur but typically resolve within 3-7 days. You'll see immediate volume improvement right away—fuller lips, smoothed lines, lifted contours—with final results settling beautifully over 1-2 weeks as any swelling subsides and the filler integrates into your tissue. Your natural-looking results will last 6-18 months depending on the specific filler product used and treatment area (lips metabolize faster, cheeks last longer). You can return to work immediately or within 1 day depending on swelling, though we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for 24 hours, sleeping elevated for 1-2 nights to minimize swelling, and avoiding dental work or facial treatments for 2 weeks to allow filler to settle.

Dermal Filler Options at Z Aesthetic Dermatology: Restylane vs Radiesse vs Revanesse
Which Filler Is Right for You?

Z Aesthetic Dermatology does not offer Juvederm. We offer Restylane, Radiesse, and Revanesse — each with distinct properties suited to different treatment goals:

Restylane
(Hyaluronic Acid)

The Restylane family (Restylane-L, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Kysse, Restylane Defyne, Restylane Contour) is our primary HA filler line. HA fillers are fully reversible with hyaluronidase — providing a critical safety net — and attract water to maintain softness and hydration. Different Restylane products have different gel stiffnesses (rheology) suited to lips, cheeks, jawlines, or fine lines. HA fillers last 6–18 months depending on product and location.

Learn more about Restylane

Radiesse
(Calcium Hydroxylapatite)

Radiesse is a non-HA filler made of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in a gel carrier. Unlike HA fillers, Radiesse is biostimulatory — it triggers your own collagen production as it integrates and gradually biodegrades. This makes it ideal for structural work (jawline, cheeks, hands) where long-lasting results and collagen support are priorities. Radiesse lasts 12–24 months and is not reversible with hyaluronidase.

Learn more about Radiesse

Revanesse
(Hyaluronic Acid)

Revanesse is a Canadian-developed HA filler distinguished by its Thixofix cross-linking technology, which produces an exceptionally smooth, homogeneous gel. Revanesse consistently demonstrates less post-treatment swelling than many comparable HA fillers — making it particularly popular for lip augmentation where patients want to see their results quickly. Like all HA fillers, it is fully reversible.

  • Which Dermal Filler Is Best?

The best filler depends on your anatomy, treatment area, and aesthetic goals.

    For example:

Patients wanting lip enhancement or soft contouring often benefit from HA fillers like Juvederm or similar products.

Patients looking for stronger facial structure or longer-lasting lift may benefit more from Radiesse.

At Z Dermatology, we primarily use Restylane, Radiesse, Belotero, and Revanesse, which allow us to customize treatment based on facial structure and desired results.

  • Why We Choose Restylane Over Juvederm

Many patients ask, "Do you have Juvederm?" While Juvederm is a well-known filler brand, we've chosen to carry Restylane instead based on years of clinical experience and patient feedback.

    Here's why:

    Restylane advantages over Juvederm:

Less swelling: Restylane typically causes less initial swelling than Juvederm, especially in the lips

More natural texture: Restylane integrates more naturally with your tissue, creating a softer, more natural feel

Better longevity: In our experience, Restylane often lasts as long or longer than comparable Juvederm products

Wider product range: The Restylane family offers more specialized products (Kysse for lips, Contour for cheeks, Refyne/Defyne for dynamic wrinkles)

Equally safe and effective: Both are FDA-approved HA fillers with excellent safety profiles

The bottom line: If you were considering Juvederm, we're confident you'll love Restylane even more. During your consultation, Dr. Z will recommend the exact Restylane product that matches your goals.

  • Which is safer: Botox or dermal fillers?

Both Botox and FDA-approved dermal fillers are considered safe when administered by qualified medical professionals. Botox has a long safety history in cosmetic dermatology, and fillers are safe when properly placed using correct technique and anatomical knowledge.

  • Which Wrinkle Treatment Is Right for You?

Botox and fillers are often used together for comprehensive facial rejuvenation. During your consultation, your provider will assess your concerns and recommend a customized treatment plan designed to deliver natural-looking, balanced results.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are ideal for patients seeking immediate volume restoration, facial contouring, wrinkle smoothing, or lip enhancement with natural-looking, reversible results. Good candidates are in overall good health with realistic expectations about what fillers can achieve—immediate visible improvement that settles over 1-2 weeks, with results lasting 6-18 months depending on product and area treated before maintenance is needed. Fillers work best for patients with moderate to severe facial volume loss (hollowed cheeks, deep nasolabial folds), specific enhancement goals (fuller lips, defined jawline, smoothed marionette lines), static wrinkles that persist even when face is relaxed (these need volume, not muscle relaxation), or those wanting immediate results for upcoming events or special occasions.

Dermal fillers may not be suitable for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have active skin infections or inflammation at treatment sites, severe allergies to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine (for HA fillers) or calcium hydroxylapatite (for Radiesse), unrealistic expectations about permanence (fillers are temporary and require maintenance), or those seeking dramatic facial transformation (surgical options may be more appropriate). Some patients benefit from combining fillers with other treatments—neuromodulators like Botox for comprehensive facial rejuvenation (fillers restore volume while Botox relaxes muscles), PRP treatments for overall skin quality improvement alongside structural volume, or laser treatments for skin texture and tone enhancement.

During your consultation, Dr. Z will evaluate your facial anatomy, assess areas of volume loss or concern, discuss your aesthetic goals and desired outcomes, review your medical history and any contraindications, explain which filler products are best suited for your specific needs, show before/after photos of similar cases, and create a personalized treatment plan with realistic timeline and maintenance schedule tailored to your unique facial structure and aesthetic desires. Dr. Z's artistic eye and medical expertise ensure you receive the right filler, in the right amount, in the right location for beautiful, natural-looking results that enhance—never change—who you are.

Filler Treatment Areas: What Can Dermal Fillers Treat?

Lip Filler in Baton Rouge & Prairieville

Lip augmentation is one of the most requested filler treatments at our Baton Rouge and Prairieville locations. Whether you want subtle definition along the lip border, added volume throughout the lips, or both, Dr. Z customizes each treatment to your facial anatomy and goals. We offer Restylane Kysse and Revanesse Lips specifically formulated for natural-feeling lip results with less swelling than many other fillers. Most lip treatments use 0.5–1 syringe and take under 30 minutes. Results last 9–12 months.

Cheek Filler in Baton Rouge & Prairieville

Cheek augmentation and mid-face volume restoration with dermal filler is one of the most transformative non-surgical procedures we offer. As we age, the cheeks naturally lose fat and bone volume, causing a hollowed or sunken appearance that contributes to jowls and nasolabial folds. Cheek filler with Restylane Lyft, Restylane Contour, or Radiesse can restore youthful mid-face projection and lift the entire face without surgery. Most patients need 1–2 syringes per side. Results last 12–18 months in the cheeks.

Jawline & Chin Filler

Strategic filler placement along the jawline and at the chin creates definition, balances facial proportions, and can soften the appearance of jowling. Radiesse and Restylane Defyne are our preferred products for jawline sculpting due to their firmer consistency and ability to provide structural support. Jawline filler is increasingly popular among both men and women seeking a sharper, more defined profile. Results typically last 12–18 months.

Nasolabial Folds & Marionette Lines

The deep lines running from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds) and from the mouth corners downward (marionette lines) respond exceptionally well to dermal filler. Dr. Z uses a combination of volume restoration and direct line filling to soften these without creating an unnatural appearance. Typical treatment requires 1–2 syringes per visit. Results last 9–12 months.

Under-Eye Hollows (Tear Trough Filler)

Dark circles and hollow under-eyes caused by volume loss — not just pigmentation — respond well to tear trough filler. This is a highly technique-sensitive area that requires an expert injector. Dr. Z uses Restylane-L for tear trough treatments due to its smooth, water-binding properties that minimize the Tyndall effect (a bluish discoloration that can occur when filler is placed too superficially). For patients where a natural approach is preferred, we also offer PRP under-eye injections as an alternative.

Facial Volume Loss & Overall Rejuvenation

A full-face volume restoration approach treats multiple areas in a single session to create a comprehensive, natural-looking rejuvenation. Rather than treating one line at a time, Dr. Z addresses the foundational volume deficit that causes multiple signs of aging simultaneously. This approach typically involves 3–6 syringes placed strategically across the face and often produces results that look more natural than piecemeal treatment. Combination treatments with Botox and PRP are also available.

How Much Do Dermal Fillers Cost in Baton Rouge?

Dermal filler cost at Z Aesthetic Dermatology is priced per syringe. Pricing varies by product — Restylane, Radiesse, and Revanesse are each priced differently. The total cost of your treatment depends on which product is used and how many syringes are needed for your goals.

General syringe ranges as a reference: Lip augmentation typically uses 0.5–1 syringe. Cheek volume restoration typically uses 1–2 syringes per side. Full-face restoration may involve 4–6 or more syringes total. These are estimates — your exact recommendation is determined at consultation.

We provide transparent, detailed pricing at your consultation before any commitment. No surprise fees. Contact our Baton Rouge office or Prairieville office to ask about current promotions or to book your consultation.

Board-Certified Injectors

Z Dermatology provides expert, medically guided filler treatments designed to restore youthful volume, enhance facial contours, and soften deep lines with precision and safety.

Volume Loss: The Root Cause of Facial Aging

Many patients assume wrinkles are the main cause of aging — but volume loss is often the primary factor.

Over time, the face loses:

  • Collagen
  • Fat pads
  • Bone density
  • Skin elasticity

This leads to:

  • Hollow cheeks
  • Under-eye shadows
  • Deep smile lines
  • Sagging jawline
  • Thinning lips

Dermal fillers restore structural support and contour, creating a more youthful and balanced appearance.

Botox vs Dermal Fillers:  What's the Difference?

Both Botox and dermal fillers are non-surgical injectable treatments designed to reduce signs of aging, but they work in very different ways and address different concerns. Both can look natural when performed by an experienced injector. Botox preserves facial movement while softening lines, and fillers restore volume without over-enhancement. Natural results depend more on provider technique and dosing than on the product itself.  Many patients combine both for comprehensive facial rejuvenation treatments.

Botox

Botox is a neuromodulator that targets dynamic wrinkles — the lines formed by repeated facial expressions like smiling, frowning, or raising your eyebrows. It works by temporarily relaxing specific facial muscles to smooth the overlying skin.

  • Ideal for forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet
  • Results typically begin appearing within 3–5 days
  • Full effects develop in about 10–14 days
  • Results generally last 3–4 months

Botox is best for wrinkles caused by muscle movement rather than volume loss.

Botox in Baton Rouge

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers restore lost volume and soften wrinkles that are visible even when your face is at rest. Instead of relaxing muscles, fillers add structure and support beneath the skin.

They are commonly used to:

  • Smooth nasolabial folds and marionette lines
  • Restore cheek volume
  • Enhance and shape the lips
  • Improve under-eye hollows
  • Rejuvenate aging hands

One major benefit of dermal fillers is that results are visible immediately after treatment.

  • Effects can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years
  • Longevity depends on the type of filler used and the area treated

Dermal Filler FAQs

  • How long do dermal fillers last?

Duration varies significantly by product and treatment area. Restylane in the lips typically lasts 9–12 months. Restylane Lyft and Restylane Contour in the cheeks can last 12–18 months. Radiesse, which also stimulates collagen production, generally lasts 12–24 months. Revanesse Versa and Revanesse Lips last approximately 6–9 months. Higher-movement areas like the lips metabolize filler faster than more static areas like the cheeks or temples. Regular maintenance appointments every 9–12 months help maintain results consistently over time.

  • Do dermal fillers hurt?

Most patients describe dermal filler injections as mildly uncomfortable but tolerable. Most fillers contain lidocaine (a numbing agent) that takes effect within seconds, making the rest of the treatment more comfortable. Dr. Z also uses cannula techniques that significantly reduce discomfort compared to traditional needle injections. Topical numbing cream can be applied before treatment if you're particularly sensitive.

  • Can dermal fillers be dissolved if I don't like them?

Yes, hyaluronic acid fillers (Restylane, Revanesse) can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down HA within 24-48 hours. This makes HA fillers reversible if you're unhappy with results or experience a complication. Radiesse (CaHA filler) cannot be dissolved but is naturally metabolized by the body over 12-18 months.

  • What's the difference between Botox and dermal fillers?

Botox (a neuromodulator) relaxes muscles to smooth wrinkles caused by facial expressions (like frown lines and crow's feet). Dermal fillers add volume to restore lost fullness, fill in static wrinkles, and enhance contours (like lips, cheeks, jawline).

Many patients use both: Botox for dynamic wrinkles (movement-related) and fillers for volume loss and contouring.

  • How much do dermal fillers cost in Baton Rouge?

Dermal filler cost at Z Aesthetic Dermatology is priced per syringe and varies by product. Restylane products, Revanesse, and Radiesse are each priced differently based on formulation and manufacturing costs. The total investment for your treatment depends on which filler is recommended and how many syringes are needed. As a general reference: lip treatments typically use 0.5–1 syringe; cheek restoration 1–2 syringes per side; full-face approaches may use 4–6 or more. Your exact cost is outlined at your consultation with no commitment required.

  • Are dermal fillers safe?

Yes, dermal fillers are FDA-approved and have an excellent safety profile when administered by a qualified, experienced injector like Dr. Z. The most common side effects are mild and temporary: swelling, bruising, redness, and tenderness. Serious complications (like vascular occlusion) are extremely rare, occurring in less than 0.1% of treatments, and can be managed if they occur.
  • What's better for lips: Restylane or Juvederm?

While Juvederm is popular, we prefer Restylane for lips because it causes less swelling, integrates more naturally, and creates a softer, more natural feel. Restylane Kysse is specifically formulated for lip augmentation and delivers beautiful, natural-looking results that last 9-12 months.

  • How soon will I see dermal filler results?

Dermal filler results are visible immediately after treatment. However, you'll see the "final" result once swelling subsides, typically 2-14 days depending on the treatment area. Lips have the most swelling (3-7 days), while other areas like cheeks and nasolabial folds have minimal swelling.

  • Can I get dermal fillers while pregnant or breastfeeding?

No, dermal fillers are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. While there's no evidence of harm, fillers have not been studied in pregnant or nursing women, so it's best to wait. Dr. Z will postpone your filler treatment until after you've delivered and finished breastfeeding.
  • How do I choose between Restylane, Radiesse, and Revanesse?

The best filler depends on your treatment area and goals:
Restylane: Versatile HA filler for lips, cheeks, under eyes, nasolabial folds (reversible, 6-18 month duration)
Radiesse: Collagen-stimulating CaHA filler for hands, jawline, deep folds (longest-lasting:
Revanesse: Affordable HA filler for lips and light volume (reversible, 6-9 month duration)12-18 months, not reversible)
Dr. Z will recommend the best filler for your unique anatomy and goals during your consultation.
  • Is Botox better than dermal fillers?

Botox and dermal fillers address fundamentally different concerns — comparing them is like comparing a muscle relaxant to a volume supplement. Botox relaxes the facial muscles that create dynamic expression wrinkles (forehead lines, 11 lines, crow's feet). Dermal fillers add volume to restore lost fullness, fill static wrinkles present even at rest, and enhance contours like the lips, cheeks, and jawline. Many patients benefit most from combining both: neuromodulators for the upper face and fillers for the mid and lower face, often in the same appointment.

  • What is the difference between Restylane and Revanesse?

Both Restylane and Revanesse are hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers with comparable safety profiles and results. The primary differences are cost (Revanesse is typically priced more affordably) and post-treatment swelling (Revanesse's Thixofix cross-linking technology consistently produces less inflammatory response, meaning less swelling and faster visible results). Dr. Z will recommend the best product for your specific goals and anatomy at your consultation — the choice is not always purely aesthetic.

  • Can I get fillers while on Ozempic, Mounjaro, or other GLP-1 medications?

Yes — GLP-1 medications do not contraindicate dermal filler treatments. However, patients on GLP-1 therapy who are experiencing significant weight loss and facial volume changes may need a modified treatment approach. When facial fat redistributes due to weight loss, the filler placement and syringe volume that would have been appropriate before may need to be adjusted. Dr. Z accounts for these changes during your consultation and develops a treatment plan that complements your current facial anatomy rather than the one you had before starting medication.

  • How do I know if I need Botox, filler, or both?

The quickest self-assessment: make your most exaggerated expression (frown, squint, raise brows), then relax your face. If the lines disappear when your face is relaxed, those are dynamic wrinkles best treated with Botox. If you see hollowness, deeper folds, or lines that remain even at rest, those are volume and structural issues best treated with filler. Many patients have both. A consultation with Dr. Z will give you a precise recommendation based on your specific anatomy and goals.

  • Is filler dissolved if I don't like the results?

Yes — all hyaluronic acid fillers (Restylane and Revanesse) can be fully dissolved using hyaluronidase, an enzyme injected into the treatment area. Dissolution typically takes 24–48 hours to show full effect. This reversibility is one of the key advantages of HA fillers over non-HA options like Radiesse, which is not reversible. We keep hyaluronidase on hand at both our Baton Rouge and Prairieville locations for this purpose.
