Fillers
Dermal fillers are a popular, non-surgical alternative to
facelifts or brow lifts, and restore your youthful radiance by
reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Also known as
“injectables” or “soft-tissue fillers”, dermal fillers do just what
their name suggests—they restore a youthful fullness to your face
by filling shallow contours, plumping your lips, or softening
facial creases.
Early anti-aging techniques tended to tighten the skin, but dermal
fillers work under the skin to replace elasticity and actually
plump the skin. As a result, your face is left looking more
youthful and natural, rather than tight and flattened. The liquid
facelift has become one of the most popular aesthetic procedures
available.
Though fillers won’t provide permanent results, they will offer the
benefits of a surgical facelift at a fraction of the cost and with
very little pain, not to mention with immediate results. Fillers
provide an impressive full new look and rejuvenation to your
appearance.
Fillers vary from synthetic to natural, and absorbable to
non-absorbable, but the most common dermal fillers include:
- Radiesse®
- Restylane®
- Restylane Lyft®
- Revanesse®
Which filler
is best for you will depend on Dr. Ann
Zedlitz's recommendation after a full evaluation of your
facial appearance and skin.
What Can Dermal Fillers Treat?
Dermal fillers are used to maintain your youthful beauty and rejuvenate your aging skin. Some of the more common uses for fillers are:
- Filling in wrinkles, deep creases, folds, and fine lines
- “Plumping” (filling) wrinkled or thin lips
- Adding volume to your cheeks
- Replacing lost volume in the temples
- Contouring facial features like your chin, jawline, eyebrow, or nose
- Improving saggy jowls
- Replacing lost volume and restoring skin substructure can literally lift aged, sagging skin, earning this procedure the name “liquid facelift”
How Do Dermal Fillers Work?
Dermal filler injections are non-invasive and only take a few
minutes to perform. After your doctor cleanses the areas on your
face where you’ll need injections, the injection sites will be
marked as a guide. If you’re sensitive to injections, a topical
anesthetic is available to help make you feel more comfortable.
After your skin is prepared, the actual injections only take a few
seconds per site. When you’re finished, you may experience
temporary discomfort, but very minor.
Recovery & Results
After you finish your injections, you will be able to resume
most activities immediately, with no downtime. You may experience
minor bruising or swelling following the procedure, but this will
fade within a few days.
Depending on the type of filler you choose, you may experience an
“over-filling” appearance at first. In some cases, this appearance
can last over a week, but most commonly lasts a few hours or
days.
An ice pack or over-the-counter pain reliever can effectively
manage any mild pain or swelling.
It should be noted that dermal fillers are not a permanent solution
to aging skin. While the results can last six to twelve months, you
will need to retreat your skin to maintain the effects. How your
body absorbs fillers and the way your skin ages will determine the
frequency of your injections.
